With the kids, we each thought of a blessing we were greatful for this year; Grandpa being kept safe, passing prop 8, making great new friends and finding a new house, etc. We then wrote our thoughts and blessings on balloons and sent them on up to sweet Zach. I know it's not much but it makes us all feel closer to the Ashton's on this difficult day.

Prop 8 is Finally Done, or so I thought...

Well the Prop 8 fight came to an end Tuesday night. It's been an amazing opportunity for our family to follow the prophet even when it took us tumbling out of our comfort zones. Knocking on strangers doors, discussing uncomfortable topics, calling at on Sunday afternoons and Family Home Evenings all because the Lord sent his servants to fight this fight. Kern County had the highest voter turnout in the state and I thank the quick feet of my little Isabel and Olivia who ran door hangers and Emma and Abby who used their cell phones for good and called total stangers to remind them to get out and vote! The fight continues as protesters rage at the doors of our temples... "these are the best of times...these are the worst of times..." I've heard that somewhere and it's true here.

Isabel has has been driving me insane. She's been so excited to go to Keep Cambria. For those of you out of California, 6th graders here go to a camp at Cambria, CA. at the ocean for a week and learn all about ocean life there. She's been talking about it for months and will probably be talking about it for months to come!!

I got to go and visit with some of my Moho friends in Dallas for a few days! The finest dining, upscale boutiques and nights at the Theatre (Yes, I spell it the British way). Only the best entertainments for the Moho crowd. unfortunately, not all of the gals were able to attend so here's a we-missed-you-shout-out to you girls! It was great to be back in the land of the Cowboys and "Hey Ya'll" I've missed it. I also got to see our Dallas cousins for awhile. We'll miss them this year for Thanksgiving!! I'm so greatful to have good friends!!

Emma's costume is one we are recycling. I think I made it a little too big!! Oh yea, I planned it!

Why did I have kids???

Ok, tonight was one of those moments when you question the decision to bring these spirits into the world. You think back to those blissful days when she lay there quietly in your arms and cooed at you. You have to set these gentle moments in concrete in your brain because days like today will happen. I went into the girls' bathroom to pick up any clothes left strewn on the floor along with soggy towels and hair accessories only to find a strange gooey substances decorating the wall behind the door. It looks like the wall is "bleeding" brown sticky gunk that has recently crusted over into a beautiful abstract art piece. Upon gathering all five daughters and beginning a query, Dad stands on a stool with Mr. Clean pad in hand and scrubs the wall, all the way to the ceiling no less. After several moments of silence and accusatory stares all around, one child begins to confess. She tells a story of finding her throat recently clogged with chunky phlem and decides for a still unknown reasons, to begin to fling the goo upon the wall! She becomes progressively better at the action and creates a body fluid masterpiece from eye level to ceiling! Not to be left out, the other children state that they discovered the mess days before and quite obviously left it to be my problem. Thanks girls! So, my question for all out there within the sound of my rant, why did I have kids???

Our trip to the BYU/UCLA game was well worth it. The Cougars rocked! So much fun to be back in Cougar stadium. Amy did not know the fight song but the band played it so many times throughout the smackdown, she was very familiar with it by the end. Next time you see her, ask for a vigorous rendition. She can deliver.

The weekend included a visit to the bookstore for all the proper game day accessories, a dinner out with Tim and Jalene, and a meandering trip through campus in search of warm grates, cadavers and such. Post game revelry continued at the Lott household with pizza, soda and UNO!! A blast!

We celebrated our Olivia's 9th b-day this week. We enjoyed cupcakes with her class and opening presents then a surprise Friday trip to Disneyland with just Dad, Mom and Kate!!

This year, like so many others, I was off to girl's camp with Emma and Abby. This year I went as Camp Director. We ventured into the Sierra Nevada mountains to the much acclaimed "Big Meadow". Bakersfield Stake has been going there for 25 years!! It was great fun and full of the spirit and both Emma and Abby came away with great memories. (By the way, that's me upside down on the zip line. Nice shot, huh? Thanks Vic!!)

We're so proud! Emma auditioned for the Fresno Youth Orchestras last weekend and was named second chair first violin in the Philharmonic! They have three orchestras and the philharmonic is the TOP!! I don't think she was expecting such a great result because when she saw the results she burst into tears!! We have been searching for an orchestra for her because her high school doesn't have one. The only high school orchestra in town meets during seminary which was not an option. This is an answer to prayers and a great blessing. This group is the touring group and will be touring in eastern europe next summer. What a fantastic oppurtunity for her!! We're thrilled!

Celebrating Mark's 29th B-day

Mark and Patty came down Friday night and stayed the night. They brought Ali, Hunter, and Jules. Saturday morning, Mark's B-day we had a great chorizo and egg burrito breakfast with them. They took Abby, left Jules and headed for the garment district in LA. When they got back last night, we had a delicious b-day dinner and Mark got to blow out candles on his requested Texas Sheet cake. A great fun time!!

Soccer Season is upon us!!

So it was the first day of soccer season!!! and a comfortable...108 degrees!!! The girl's coaches were all for forfeiting but the girls wouldn't hear of it so Isabel went on to score the only goal of their game and they won. Olivia played great defense and her team won 2-1!!! The coaches shortened Olivia's game to 5 minute quarters because of the heat.

Well It's finally happened. After sixteen years, I have sadly been released from Young Women! It's shocking. Abby is still in denial she keeps trying to get me to plan things for them and I have to gently remind her that I'm not in Young Women anymore to which she responds, "Yes you are. You haven't been released." My new calling, ironically, is den leader for the Bears. What the heck is a bear?!? I don't know anything about scouts let alone bears!! To add to the hilariousness, Allen is now the cub master, whatever that is. I'm calling on all my friends with boys and/or knowledge of scouting to come to my rescue!! Did you know they give awards to these little scouties every month?!?! I wish the Young Women were recognized that often. Oh well, I'm sure I'll muddle through. The most distressing part of this is, I have to go back to Relief Society. Tragic, I know. Keep me in your prayers. It'll help me survive (RS not scouts).
